This park is located approximately 1-1/2 hours from Arusha. It is a
perfect park to go on a budget one day safari due to its close proximity
to Arusha. This park is also a perfect ending point to your multiple
day safari which makes the trip back to Arusha much less tiring than the
other parks.
Tarangire National Park, covering an undulating 2,600km, stands between the plains of the Maasai Steppe to the south-east and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north and west. Large number of elephant herds congregate here, as do many wildebeest and zebra. There are also substantial populations of impala, giraffe, eland and buffalo. Thompson's gazelle, Coke's hartebeest, bohor reedbuck and greater and lesser kudu are found here. The unusual gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx also occur here. Lions are common throughout Tarangire, as are leopards.
